Finnair expands Lapland for summer 2026: new direct routes from Brussels, Zurich and Paris, plus a fresh Tromsø–Rovaniemi link. The full list, with sources.
Finnair has confirmed an expanded summer 2026 schedule into Finnish Lapland alongside its
winter expansion, with direct services from three continental European hubs and a fresh
cross-border route to Norwegian Lapland. For travellers used to routing via Helsinki, several
of these flights remove the transfer entirely and they apply to the warmer half of the
Below is the confirmed list, drawn from Finnair's October 2025 announcement via Finavia and
further reporting from The Barents Observer.
Helsinki – Ivalo – Kirkenes: increased to five times weekly in summer 2026 (Finavia).
Helsinki – Kittilä – Alta (NEW): five times weekly via Kittilä, opening summer 2026, a new Finnmark destination (Finavia).
Brussels – Kittilä: twice weekly, resumed (Finavia).
Zurich – Kittilä: twice weekly, resumed (Finavia).
Paris – Rovaniemi: twice weekly (Finavia).
Tromsø – Rovaniemi: 2 April – 2 October 2026, six days a week (Mon–Wed, Fri–Sun), The Barents Observer.
Plus 12 new destinations from Finnair's wider summer 2026 programme.
Three groups of travellers feel a real difference here:
Continental Europeans skipping Helsinki. Brussels, Zurich and Paris all
get direct services into Lapland for summer 2026. For travellers from those catchments
this removes the Helsinki transfer entirely on at least some weeks, total journey time
drops materially. Inventory is twice-weekly on each route, so flexibility on dates matters
Cross-border Lapland trips. The Tromsø–Rovaniemi summer schedule (April–
October) is the headline change for travellers combining Norwegian and Finnish Lapland.
You can now fly the Arctic ridge between Tromsø and Rovaniemi six days a week without
Far-north travellers via Kirkenes and Alta. The Helsinki–Ivalo–Kirkenes
frequency increase, plus the new Helsinki–Kittilä–Alta connection, build out the network
for travellers reaching deep into Finnmark, including those targeting the North Cape or
Twice-weekly is not daily. Brussels, Zurich and Paris each operate two
flights a week into Kittilä or Rovaniemi during the announced window. If your preferred
dates fall on the wrong day of the week, the Helsinki transfer is still your route.
"Summer 2026" is the operator's term, not a guarantee for every week.
Specific operating windows vary by route. The Tromsø–Rovaniemi service runs 2 April – 2
October 2026 per The Barents Observer; the European routes are announced as resumed/opened
but operate on Finnair's published seasonal schedule. Always confirm dates on
finnair.com or the airline's booking page before locking flights.
Connecting buses and trains haven't changed. From Rovaniemi or Kittilä you
still need bus or rental for onward travel to Levi, Saariselkä, Inari, Ylläs. See our
New routes from continental Europe to remote airports tend to either consolidate or expand
within their first two seasons. We'll be watching whether Brussels, Zurich and Paris become
weekly/daily by winter 2026–27, whether the Alta connection holds, and whether other carriers
(Norwegian, Lufthansa group, easyJet) move to compete on these pairings. Updates will land
